Our guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you on a scenic journey to My Son, one of the most important relics of the ancient Champa Kingdom. Nestled in a peaceful valley surrounded by towering mountains, My Son is a breathtaking archaeological site that reveals the spiritual and cultural essence of a once-powerful civilization. Located about 80 kilometers from Da Nang, this sacred complex was dedicated to the worship of the Hindu god Shiva and served as the religious center for the Cham rulers. Inscriptions discovered at the site indicate that ceremonies and offerings were held here as early as the 4th century. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, My Son Sanctuary stands as a remarkable example of Southeast Asian history, architecture, and devotion, showcasing the harmony between man-made artistry and nature’s beauty.

Originally constructed from wood, the temples of My Son were destroyed by fire in the 6th century but were later restored in the 7th century by King Sambhuvarman, who rebuilt them using locally made red bricks and stone pillars. Over the next several centuries, more than 70 temples and towers were constructed, creating a magnificent sanctuary that became the spiritual heart of the Champa Kingdom. Each structure reflects the Cham people’s skillful craftsmanship and deep religious faith, with intricate carvings and sculptures depicting deities, dancers, and sacred animals. Today, My Son remains a captivating historical treasure, offering visitors a journey through time to witness the enduring legacy of one of Vietnam’s most fascinating ancient civilizations.

We went on a small, sunrise tour from Hoi An and were the first group through the doors on a Saturday morning. It was stunning to have the temple complex so quiet and peaceful. We loved learning about the history from our guide, Lind. As we were leaving, lots of coach tours arrived so would really recommend going early (6am).

Amazing. We got there just after 7 in the morning, and it was a great move to beat the heat and the crowds. The presentation and preservation of each set of ruins was really great. There is contant renovation and further excavation happening, yet the ruins retain plenty of the original composition. As a visitor, the access is relatively complete.. open for you to explore at your own pace. It’s a loop trail, very easy, where each turn reveals a new set of ruins. We spent about 2 hours total. A very well earned 5 stars for us, and from my perspective, a place you don’t just see, you can feel the aura. The people working here also, great caretakers of the site.

Such a great learning experience. It was nice to read and learn about the history of this site and how its a UNESCO site as well. I liked that they had bicycles you could rent for very cheap to get to the main site quicker, especially on a hot day. Souvenirs were plenty to pick from. They let you walk around the site respectfully and go inside certain areas.

Definitely worth the visit. Champa history and Hindu history. Ride there on a motorbike to experience the Vietnamese countryside. It takes roughly an hour to walk around but if you are more invested in learning there is also a museum art the beginning. Audio guides help with the learning too.

Loved this experience...the ruins allow one to feel the history of the sites and one is able to purchase a guide explaining each site, or have a guide assist. The museum is also informative. There is a buggy ride to the starting point and back, if unable, one can take a private buggy to avoid the walk and still enjoy the experience, with a third option of renting a bicycle. They have a show which shares the culture and music of their festival days, along with a very enticing dance routine which is mesmerising. On certain days they have a singing show, however we did not experience this when we went (wrong day). Not full when we attended, which was a Wednesday morning. Lots of drink carts along the way to refresh. Had the best lemon tea and cold coconut on the walk back.

Really great tour guide. A very magical, fresh and relaxed morning trip. A nice change from the exiting yet touristic bling bling vibes of bana hills and da nang
